Learn to Trade Review: Graham
My name is Graham Jenkins and I live in Balmain near Sydney. I am 66 years old and I am a business consultant.
I have been interested in foreign exchange trading for many years. In the 1980s I used to hand-draw charts of the gold price and the Australian and US stock markets. When the markets became very volatile and scary I decided to wait until there was some better software around that might automate the process. I like the analytical work that’s involved. I guess I have that kind of brain. For the last 20 years I have continued to be interested in currency fluctuations, the gold price and stock markets. This interest stems from the knowledge that it is a good way to make money but also there is some intellectual pleasure to be had from the process.
I think the course was excellent and the SmartCharts charting software is so easy to use. The tutors are patient with students and really want us to be successful. They take time to help us understand and enjoy sharing their knowledge with us.
The strategy that I have focused on so far is the 180 Phase Changer. I have developed a routine of reviewing the charts and trading activity over breakfast from 7.30 to 9.30 each morning. This has meant changing a few habits. I have given up reading the newspaper each morning and I try to make sure that my first business appointment is no earlier than 10am. Each evening from about 9pm I review the charts and trading activity again and I will sometimes implement the trading suggestions that appear on the SmartCharts screen from Adam Truelove and other experts.
I started trading as soon as the course was over. I wanted to do this quickly because the great unknown for me was how I would handle my emotions. I put $5000 in my account and started keeping a log of my trades. I had a good run with six wins of which the most successful was a EURAUD trade that netted 96 pips. Then I became impatient and overconfident and had a succession of six losing trades. Ouch! I carefully reviewed these so that I could learn from the experience. In one of my coaching sessions with Beata she examined these trades with me and demonstrated how I could apply a greater depth of analysis. I like to think that I’m very coachable. Everything that I’ve done so far including the trading losses, I count as a business investment.
Overall I must say that I’m very happy. It has required me to restructure my day and to give up some habits so that I can free up the time to develop the skills that I need. I think the training and the cleverness of the SmartCharts software makes it look easier than it is. It requires regular practice and thoughtful analysis. Great traders make it look effortless. My intention is to become unconsciously competent like them and to make a great deal of money.
